Thousands of cosmetic elements

Fortnite: a pay2win emote present in the game? A player discovers it

Since its release in 2017, the Battle Royalke Fortnite has multiplied the collaborations allowing for customization of his character. In order to style his character to his liking, there is a shop in which you can find various cosmetics. Accessories for the back, pickaxe but also full outfits that allow you to take on the look of even Tom Holland, Naruto or the tennis champion Naomi Osaka† In addition, there is one last element of customization: emotes. They allow the player, who can activate them in the game whenever he wants, to perform a pose or a dance.

All these cosmetic items are for aesthetic purposes only and should not affect the player’s performance. Why ? For the simple reason that these items are obtained with V-Bucks, the in-game currency that can only be recovered through microtransactions. Therefore, it is necessary that these cosmetic elements do not bring an advantage in the game, on the one hand to avoid the incentive to spend, on the other hand to place all players on an equal footing.

Chloe Kim.

For its part, Epic Games must therefore ensure that none of the cosmetic elements deviate from this rule. And if the bet holds in general, there are a few minor exceptions. At least it’s what one can believe following a clip shared by user Ryzii_Mode-_- on Reddit† He publishes a short video clip, available at this address, in which he struggles with an opponent for the final victory. Without doing it on purpose, he activates the emote flip plank by snowboarder Chloé Kim. And while his opponent shoots him, he dodges the shots allowing him to recover the top 1.

So, emote to buy to win or just player luck? If the debate can divide the players, it’s worth remembering that this isn’t the first time you’ve been able to dodge bullets with such an emote. Once, the emote Dib-Dab allowed to dodge while reacting immediately after dodging: an exploit where Epic Games responded quickly.
