Delays, unplanned landings, canceled flights: the ordeal of Volotea passengers

The low-cost Spanish airline Volotea was hit by a staff strike this Easter weekend. Badly managed, it turned into a real nightmare for its passengers.

For the tenth year of its existence, Volotea could not have dreamed of worse publicity. Many flights of the Spanish airline were disrupted during the weekend. Worse is the disorganization and total lack of communication which often annoyed the passengers.

@volotea it might be a good idea to negotiate with your staff on strike, rather than allowing a very, very bad image of a low cost airline to its passengers.
Where are we with the flight Fuerteventura Toulouse? We are without news

Asked by our colleagues fromEuropean 1some say to have landed in Nantes instead of Strasbourg. “We wait, we wait and the worst part is we have had no information, says one passenger. We learned it by talking to the staff at the airport. Even on the boarding panel it said ‘Strasbourg was still marked there. I was told that some in Nantes had found a taxi to go to the station. Then a train to Paris. They slept at the airport and left the next day by train for Strasbourg.”

no relapse

Earlier this weekend, travelers departing for the Canary Islands were stranded at Toulouse airport. As indicated France 3“the flight scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. was canceled at the time of check-in,” with passengers still having no news from Volotea several hours later.

The same problem in Brest, Monday morning, where the cancellation of a flight to Nice was announced overnight by text message, with no emergency solution being offered.

Strike extended next weekend

The reason for these malfunctions? A staff strike. In a communicated on April 6, the National Union of Airline Pilots (SNPL) denounced “constantly deteriorating working conditions” and the fact that Volotea’s crew are “among the lowest paid on the market”.

This call for a strike, which largely disrupted flights this Easter weekend, will be renewed on April 23 and 24. Dates when many vacation returns are planned. Travelers have been warned.
