The adventure was short-lived for Dylan and Alexis, the two founders of the semi-gourmet restaurant Aux Deux Amis, located on rue Vigne-Saint-Avold in Metz (Moselle).
The establishment in the city center had to close its doors, the two managers announced on social networks on Monday, October 3, 2022. It had opened on November 23, 2021, less than a year earlier.
The restaurant was already the subject of a temporarily closed for a month. But what hastened the end of the adventure when Aux Deux Amis was credited with 4.8 out of 5 for 55 opinions on google and 5 out of 5 for 31 reviews on TripAdvisor ?
“The closure is not linked to our way of working”
Alexis, one of the founders contacted Lorraine Newsemphasizes the fact that “we had 99% great feedback from our customers and that the closure has nothing to do with our way of working”. The co-manager points out another problem.
From May until closing we had a disastrous summer: we don’t have a terrace and once customers could eat outside, things got very complicated. We mainly worked on Friday and Saturday evenings, but very little the rest of the time.
Despite “the rising prices of raw materials”, Alexis assures that ” we have not increased our ratesotherwise no one would have come. In the end, we further reduced our margin.
And now ?
For the co-founder of Aux Deux Amis, “the experience has served us a lot as far as we have discovered another facet of the profession, but right now it is too risky to try starting a business again”.
So “we started applying wherever we could to find a job,” he confirms. The former managers are not counting on the Christmas market this year: “the prices of the chalets have doubled and we have been asked for an advance”, justifies Alexis.
