After the discount, the strike.
Last month, the announcement of a 20 cent discount by Total caused a black gold rush in the gas stations in the region. The energy giant showed the 95 liters unleaded for about 1 € 35, and several pumps were temporarily dry.
It has been a strike for ten days, notably renewed at the Feyzin refinery, which carries a risk of a shortage of supplies. The workers demand a 10% salary increase for 2022, while Total made very big profitsdue to the rise in oil prices.
Queues that can last up to an hour and a half
S de Rhône has so far seemed quite spared by the closure of gas stations, the list of stations that were partially or completely broken only got longer. It is now not uncommon to see desperately empty signs on the road, in front of stations, or notices of breakage at the terminals, reports France 3 Regionswhich also testifies to queues that can last up to an hour and a half, along the Lyon ring road.
With all this, if there is a lack of fuel in one place, there is often another. How do you find your way and avoid burning fuel unnecessarily… to find something? Le Progrès gives you some good tips, among other things.
Fuel price website
We have this site, government and therefore official (fuelprices.gouv.fr). The result is great ease of use as you can, among other things, select the desired fuel, the department, the municipality, a sign and even a route and get a list of stations nearby.
The joint card
The penurie.mon-essence site consists of a map on which, based on user statements, open gas stations and available fuels are displayed in real time. Just press the pump icon to find out which fuels are missing in a station. The card is available as an app at Essence&CO, available on iOS and Android.
Waze-like apps
Another trick to show users where fuel is nearby is the driving and navigation aid mobile applications like Waze. The latter is also based on the government site, but also on a regular interactive update, via shared users.
Social networks
In the Rhone, as elsewhere, the topic is discussed by local or departmental discussion groups, often in the form of requests for help: “Out of petrol, who can tell me where there is some? It’s up to everyone to see the one in their town, to avoid them walking in circles.
Distributor websites
TotalEnergies for example, offers a map on its website, which shows only the stations where the fuel you are looking for is located. Updating information appears to be correct. However, a disadvantage is that some stations do not appear depending on the zoom level on the map.
Smartphone apps
There are also applications for smartphones to find out the availability of fuels at filling stations. Some distributors have one. Non-exhaustive list: Gasoil Now (on Android and iOS), Fuel Flash (Android/iOS), Gasoline & Co (Android/iOS) or Least Expensive Station (Android).
