Anthony Delaplace completed his collection in his region. After the Polynormande (1.1) in 2011, the Tour de Normandie (2.2) and the Duo Normand (1.2) in 2017, the 32-year-old Manchois won Paris-Camembert (1.1 – see ranking† In the presence of his loved ones, the loyal Arkéa-Samsic team member entrusts his happiness to the microphone of DirectVelo

DirectVelo: You’ve finally put Paris-Camembert on your list after your thirteenth consecutive entry!
Anthony Delaplace: I am very happy to have come full circle in Normandy, even though my career is not over yet. In 2016 I already became 2nd behind Cyril Gautier. It’s huge. It’s so rare for a runner like me who isn’t fast in the sprint. I am filled with joy. In addition, there were my mother, my children and my wife. Usually they never come.

Today you had your card, you who often shadow work for your team….
It was the first time this year that I got my chance. I grabbed it, I wanted to shine. I’ve been driving for the leaders since the start of the season, which is normal in the biggest races. I know I’m not a great champion. You have to be realistic about your abilities. It’s not frustrating at all for me. Ten days ago I was just as happy doing my job as a team-mate for Warren (Barguil) at the Miguel Indurain GP. Those are two different things. When a leader wins, it’s just as nice as if I’m imposing myself.

“PLAY FILOU”

In the final you were with four other competitors. How did you handle the situation?
If we came together in the sprint, I would have lost. I knew there was against Matis (Louvel, his teammate) who is very fast in the sprint. My sports director, Arnaud Gérard, kept telling me in my headset to shut up and joke. Usually I am a generous runner in the effort. I let the others do a little bit to get back to Valentin Ferron. Everyone wanted to catch their breath when it came back. I put in a good charge at a mile and looked back. I got lucky once.

When did you feel the victory was yours?
I turned about 500 meters from the line. With the rain on the goggles I couldn’t see much, but I saw that no one was there. I thought it was good. There was a hole that was too big, except when I crashed.

What are you aiming for now?
All races are worth winning. I have other events that suit me, such as the Tour du Limousin. This year I hope to participate in the Vuelta a España. I have already participated in the Tour but never in the Vuelta, it is a goal.
