Graphics card prices have been on a downward trend for the past few weeks. Only now a new generation is on the way…
Even though the situation is slowly starting to improve, the shortage of electronic components that has plagued us since the start of the pandemic still has a direct impact on supply and prices. Until a few months ago it was almost impossible to get your hands on a latest generation graphics card and at best you had to pay an obscene bill.
Graphics card prices are finally falling…
Take the example of the GeForce RTX 3060: with its positioning at the heart of the range, it had to represent the choice of reason. Let it be said, this has never been the case! A few weeks ago, this graphics card traded for more than 700 or even 800 €, while it was listed by Nvidia at the list price of $ 329.
Despite an economic situation being undermined by rising energy prices, business is developing positively for buyers. Supply lines have strengthened, speculation is slowly fading and Ethereum prices are falling. As a result, demand is stabilizing, and even declining in some markets, and it is now possible to find a GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB for less than €500, or an RTX 3060 Ti for less than €600.
The observation is the same for an RTX 3070 Ti: while a few months ago the price fluctuated between 1200 and 1400 €, it is now about 800 € [-33 %]† Ditto for the RTX 3050, which went from 600 to 400 €, or the RTX 3080, whose price falls from 1600 to 1050 €.
… Is this the right time to crack?
Now that the souffle is falling, we ask ourselves this question: should we (really) take advantage of this drop in price to jump on these graphics cards? Nothing is less certain… As you probably know, a whole new generation is on the way, whether it’s Nvidia, with the RTX 40 series, or AMD with the RX 7000.
While an official date has not yet been set, some sources are suggesting a presentation in the fall. If you can wait, it makes more sense to do so. Otherwise, take advantage of the price reductions to treat yourself.
