When Death Stranding joins the band

Sony is hungry, it’s no secret and its video game family should grow even more in 2022. Since the last acquisitions, many have tried a game of guessing upstream which developers or publishers might be acquired… and Kojima Productions had been quoted more than once. It must be said that the iconic director Hideo Kojima has always had a very good relationship with PlayStation, dead stranding temporary exclusivity.

and it’s good dead stranding causing confusion today: on the official PlayStation Studios site, Sony has just released an update of the presentation banner to add the famous adventure game, the hero Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus) and then along with Ratchet, Kratos, Ellie, Aloy and a whole host of PS4 and PS5 stars.

Since these come ONLY from Sony-owned studios, many are wondering if the addition of dead stranding could not mean the imminent announcement of the acquisition of Kojima Productions. Coincidence or not, the Japanese designers have just moved from their premises without really explaining why and how.

If it’s true that it can be confusing and that the acquisition of Kojima Productions would make sense (especially since Hideo Kojima and Sony have a very strong common history), it could also be that this banner means nothing concrete. After all, despite the studio’s independence, dead stranding is a game partly published by Sony, which has always put it forward and the latter may just want to show it among its exclusives.

We should also not forget the many rumors of a collaboration with Microsoft for Hideo Kojima: last year he told himself thata deal with Xbox was almost done for a new game. Corridor noises should of course be taken with a grain of salt.

One thing is certain, it is that Sony consciously wants to expand the PlayStation Studios group and new members will join in 2022.
