In September 2020, CD Projekt Red will announce that the excellent The Witcher 3 will be entitled to a next-gen version. Today, two years after this information fell, we learned that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game are falling behind again.

The Witcher 3 on PS5 and Xbox Series not before the end of the year?

Definitely, the development of next-gen versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has experienced some inconveniences since the start. Normally expected for 2021, then the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will finally be delayed again for the second quarter of 2022. The Polish studio has just taken the floor to announce that the upgrade to the popular RPG has been postponed again. Unfortunately, no new release date has been announced. All we know is that, as mentioned before, the title won’t be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series before June 30, 2022.

In a tweet published a few minutes ago (and available below), CD Projekt Red claims that this umpteenth postponement is due to a team change.

We’ve decided to let our in-house development team do the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and therefore need to postpone the Q2 release until further notice. 1/2

Formerly owned by Saber Interactive (World War Z† Crysis remastered), development of the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 is now being developed in-house by CD Projekt Red. The reason for this change is unknown at this time.

What will the upgrade bring?

As you probably already know, this upgrade is free for those who already own the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X|S and will allow players to (re)discover the adventures of our favorite Witcher in a new light. On next-gen, the game will indeed benefit from new visual effects, as well as ray-tracing and shorter loading times. Finally, keep in mind that this new edition includes all DLCs released so far.
