WhatsApp rolls out one of its most anticipated features

Multi-device support is finally available to everyone.

WhatsApp is rolling out support for multiple devices. This feature allows users to connect to 4 devices at the same time. And this without having to use their smartphone.

One of the most anticipated features

Usually, in order to take advantage of the web version of WhatsApp, i.e. Desktop, it is necessary to keep the smartphone to which the account is linked near the computer and connected to the Internet. But that time has passed.

The new WhatsApp Web version 2.2210.10 offers cross-device support and is now available to the app’s two billion active users. The beta version was released at the end of September 2021. Normally, the entire multi-support system guarantees end-to-end encryption.

Cut the cord with the smartphone

Thanks to this support, WhatsApp users can connect on four devices at the same time, without having to connect their smartphone to the internet and without having to scan a QR code. Logging into their account is therefore much faster.

Specifically, a QR code system will allow the desktop version of the application to work independently. And this without having to keep your smartphone online or nearby. So it is possible to send messages or make calls, even if your smartphone is not connected to the internet or is switched off.

Please note that this update only affects computers using the desktop version of WhatsApp or the WhatsApp Web online service. For tablets, you need to open WhatsApp Web from a browser and display the web page in “computer version”.

Pairing multiple devices

To take advantage of this new feature, you must first update your WhatsApp application on your smartphone. The update is called 2.2210.10.

After updating the app, just open WhatsApp and go to settings, the three little dots at the top right of the screen on Android and the gear at the bottom of the screen on iPhone. In the “Connected devices” menu, press “OK” and then “Connect a device”. After that, all you need to do is choose the device that the user wants to connect to their WhatsApp account and scan the QR code displayed on the screen.
