The Rassemblement National candidate had a hard time justifying the position of her party’s MEPs.
Faced with the National Rally’s ambiguity over Russia’s position in the Ukraine war, Marine Le Pen became confused on Wednesday night. During an interview on BFMTV, journalist Bruce Toussaint questioned her about the reasons for the vote of RN members of the European Parliament against €1.2 billion aid to Ukraine and against sanctions against Russia.

Bruce Toussaint is in fact referring to the absence of all members of the National Rally during a vote in the European Parliament on 7 April to decide on a support for Ukraine† Indeed, none of the 19 RN MPs was present that day. And this is not the first time that MEPs from Marine Le Pen’s party have taken a stance in favor of Russia of Putin since the beginning of the war.
