New York: Brooklyn Subway Shooting Leaves Multiple Injured

UNITED STATES – At least 13 injured in subway shooting New Yorkannounced Tuesday, April 12, a spokesman for the city’s fire department.

There is a major security system in place on 36th Street and 4th Avenue in brooklynwhere the incident took place. “At 8:27 a.m., police received an emergency call from a person shot on the subway” in Brooklyn, a New York police spokeswoman previously confirmed to AFP, who asked the public to avoid the area.

Photos and amateur videos showed pools of blood and people lying on the floor of a subway train, as well as on the platform of the “36th Street” station. Several images shot by users also show smoke escaping from a train. A spokesman for the fire service told AFP that “non-activated explosives” had been found. According to a tweet from the police, “There are currently no usable explosives.”

Schoolchildren have been cared for in schools near the metro station, authorities said. No details were given on the number of schools involved.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Twitter that “the US president has been briefed” about the New York shooting and that “White House teams are in contact with the mayor [de New York, Éric] Adams and the Police Commissioner [Keechant] Sewell to provide assistance when needed”. Joe Biden announced new measures against the proliferation of firearms on Monday.

According to various American media, including the New York Times Police are looking for a man in a gas mask and orange jumpsuit, like those worn by construction workers in the megacity of nearly 9 million people.

New York State Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul said she was monitoring the situation and was kept informed of the investigation into the event.

New York’s Democratic mayor Eric Adams was elected on security promises and launched a firearms proliferation plan in late January after the deaths of two police officers shot dead during an intervention. But since then, other gun dramas have made headlines.

For the first quarter of 2022 (January 1 to early April), the number of New York City shootings and shootings increased by 260 to 296 compared to the same period of 2021, according to figures released by the NYPD last week.
