Orange launches with its Livebox 6 . a more expensive and very high-end subscription

A more expensive fiber offering that is the only one to include its new Livebox 6.

What is Orange preparing? Indeed, the incumbent has announced that it will showcase its brand new box, whose design has already leaked online, on April 6. According to information from MacGenerationit wouldn’t be the only novelty announced tomorrow, as a brand new offering will be dedicated to it.

Indeed, to accompany and offer its new baby, Orange would also launch Livebox Max. A more extensive and more expensive offer and which would therefore be the only one to offer access to its new box. The Livebox 5 would thus remain on the market within the operator’s already existing offer. However, if the speeds offered are not disclosed, they would be higher than those of the Up offer currently offered by Orange, i.e. 2 Gbit/s in download and 600 Mbit/s in upload.

However, the Livebox 6 launched by Orange in Spain in 2020 may contain some clues as to the achievable speeds. Manufactured by Arcadyan and Sagemcom, this box integrates Wi-Fi 6 dual-band 4×4 5 GHz, 3×3 2.4 GHz, an ARMv8 B53 dual-core 1.5 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM, 4 Ethernet ports Gigabit, 2 RJ-11 ports for VoIP and a USB 3.0 port. On the fiber side, there is a 2.5 Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet WAN port or GPON (integrated ONT), depending on the version. In comparison, such a port is integrated into the Freebox Pop offering which offers 5 Gbit/s at speeds of up to 2.5 Gbit/s on a single device. It remains to be seen whether Orange has made the same choice or wants to offer a different solution.

The prices would also be higher than Orange’s already premium offer, namely € 49.99 per month after promotion, without the exact price being known. According to our colleagues, WiFi support for the subscriber would also be included, especially after the launch of a repeater for certain subscribers† The operator also confirms on its social networks that the Livebox 6 will be in stores from April 7.

However, according to our information, Orange’s new baby will not play the card of the revolution. The design will be even more environmentally friendly than the Livebox 5 which was already 100% recycled and recyclable. The main development will be the integration of Wi-Fi 6 or even WiFi 6E. The management of IPV6 will also be one of the novelties of the server. Some functions can be virtualized.
