True to his plan of action, mercedes invests heavily in electrification. This strategy involves two axes in the development of a rechargeable hybrid range (petrol or diesel) whose latest models, namely the C300e class Being able to travel 100 km in all-electric mode, which is unique on the market, but also achieving a 100% electric range. In parallel with the thermal offer, it will soon include as many vehicles. There are already no fewer than six vehicles with theEQAl’EQBl’EQCthe EQSthe EQT, the EQV to which this EQE should be added and soon the SUV version of theEQS† An SUV version of our EQE has already been announced and there will also be a 100% electric G-Class, derived from the EQG concept presented at the Munich show. There will no doubt be something for almost everyone.
Discovered at the Munich meeting, this EQE is unmistakably reminiscent of a reduced EQS.
Stylistically, the lineage is clear. We discover a sedan with particularly flowing lines that give the impression that the designers have drawn it with a single pencil line. The entire grille is stamped with the star logo and is surrounded by slender headlights that resemble those of the Grand Tourer. The door handles are flat and the stern is covered with a light strip. The whole is successful and ensures that the EQE – just like the EQS by the way – is particularly efficient and effective in the field of aerodynamics.
Inside, without too much surprise, we find the dashboard of the EQS. This EQE can therefore only receive the famous hyperscreen on the AMG version. This impressive 1.40m wide digital panel consists of three screens: digital instruments facing the driver, the traditional center screen and another facing the front passengers. Just as spectacular, you have to pay the neat amount of € 8,000. Don’t think as far as series, the EQE is a cross on technique.
On the contrary, because it is equipped with a very modern dashboard with 12.3-inch digital instruments that can be communicated via a head-up display. It sits next to a 12.8-inch multimedia screen that works exceptionally smoothly and quickly. In addition to the technological content, it is the care for the materials that stands out, especially on our test model, the quilted leather, as well as an original and pleasant treatment of the dashboard. Mercedes thereby confirms its know-how in this area. The practicalities are not forgotten, as evidenced by the enormous storage space under the floating center console.
With its length of 4.95 m, the EQE is an imposing sedan. It is logically smaller than the EQS due to the shorter front and rear overhangs. The huge wheelbase of the EQS (3.12 m) remains unchanged, giving the EQE a particularly generous rear space, especially in terms of legroom. The roof protection is less spectacular, but sufficient for passengers over 1.80 m. Finally, it is the trunk that is disappointing with a capacity of only 430 liters, which is not much, especially since it is accessible through a trunk and not through a tailgate like on the EQS.
